Android Health Connect is the hub on your Android phone that collects health and fitness data from your apps and devices and stores it on the device with per-app permissions. On Android, your tracker data flows like this: your tracker app writes to Health Connect, the Google Health app reads Health Connect, and eFit reads Google Health.
This article shows you how to:
- Open Health Connect
- Let your tracker apps write into Health Connect
- Make sure Google Health can read that data, so eFit receives it
- Prevent duplicate step counts by setting data source priority
Once your data is in Health Connect and Google Health, connect eFit by following Connect eFit With Google Health.
A. Requirements
- Health Connect requires Android 9 (API 28) or higher and Google Play services.
- Android 14 and higher: Health Connect is built in and opened through Android Settings.
- Android 13 and lower: install Health Connect by Android from Google Play, then open it through Settings.
B. Open Health Connect
Android 14 and higher
- Open Settings.
- Tap Security and privacy.
- Tap Privacy controls.
- Tap Health Connect.
Tip: if your menus look different, use the Settings search box and search for Health Connect.
Android 13 and lower
- Install Health Connect by Android from Google Play.
- Open Settings, tap Apps, tap All apps, tap Health Connect, then tap Open.
C. Let your tracker apps write into Health Connect
Each tracker app must be allowed to write its data into Health Connect. Set this up once per app.
Fitbit
- Open the Fitbit app.
- On the Today tab, tap the devices icon.
- Under Add connections, tap Set up Health Connect.
- Follow the steps and select the data you want to share.
Garmin Connect
- Open Garmin Connect.
- Turn on the Health Connect integration in Garmin Connect settings.
- Sync your Garmin device.
Garmin shares data one way, from Garmin Connect into Health Connect.
Samsung Health
- Open Samsung Health.
- Go to Settings, tap Health Connect, then tap App permissions.
- Select Samsung Health and enable the data permissions you want.
D. Make sure Google Health can read your data
Open the Google Health app and confirm it can read the data types you enabled (Steps, Active Zone Minutes, Heart rate, and any others). Google Health reads Health Connect on your phone, and eFit reads Google Health, so this permission is what carries your activity through to eFit.
E. Prevent duplicate step counts
If more than one app writes the same data type, such as steps, Health Connect merges the data. When values conflict, Health Connect keeps the app that sits higher in the priority list.
- Open Health Connect.
- Under Permissions and data, tap Manage data.
- Tap Data sources and priority.
- Select a category such as Activity.
- Press and hold an app name and drag to reorder.
Recommendation: choose one primary step source (for example Fitbit, Garmin, or Samsung Health) and place it at the top for Activity.
F. Troubleshooting
eFit shows 0 steps or no activity
- In Health Connect, confirm your tracker app has write permission (Health Connect > App permissions > your tracker app).
- In the Google Health app, confirm it can read that data.
- Force a new sync in your tracker app.
- Open eFit, go to Sync Tracker, and confirm Google Health is connected.
Steps look too high
Set Data sources and priority and move your preferred source to the top for Activity.
Remove bad or duplicate data
Health Connect lets you delete stored data (all data, a category, a single entry, or data from a previously connected app). Deleting in Health Connect does not delete copies stored inside other apps.
