A Walking Journey turns the steps your students are already taking into progress along a virtual route. They walk toward a destination with their real step counts, and rewards appear on the map as they pass each milestone.
Create the journey
- Go to Content > Journey Setup.
- Create a journey and set its destination.
- Save it, then attach it to the course whose students should walk it.
Add the rewards
Content > Rewards is a separate screen. Create a milestone reward for each point on the route where you want something to happen. Students see rewards on their journey map as they reach each goal, which is what makes the route feel like it is going somewhere.
A journey with no rewards still works. It is just a progress bar with better scenery.
Choosing a distance
Pick a destination your class can plausibly reach in the time available. Look at average steps for a comparable section in Reports > Reports Hub > Class Activity Summary, multiply by the number of weeks, and set the destination a little inside that. A journey nobody finishes demotivates the students it was meant to encourage.
Tracking it
Reports > Reports Hub > Walking Journey Progress shows how far each student has travelled and which rewards they have earned.
There is also a how-to video for creating a walking journey under System > How to Videos.
